Student has Anxiety, hard time following the class timeline and is easily distracted by those around him. He is on the Autism Spectrum. Because of the Anxiety this student incurs he has a hard time, at first getting us to the online environment. After working with him, he started to see a pattern of lessons when looking at the LMS. This means that he knew how to find his lesson, the assignment and how to pass in work as the LMS could be set up to be very consistent The  timeline online could be massaged using conditions within the assignments. Hopper has an IEP with accommodations for Dysgraphia . Your class requires written reports in each unit on various topics. Hopper expresses concern over his grade in your class because of the written reports. You know Hopper is putting forth effort, but he still is not passing your class. He asks what he can do to improve his grade. How do you respond? One difficulty that Hopper may experience in an online course is writing the Discussion posts and writing the Essays. Any kind of written communication would be hard. Hopper's in ability to keep up and follow the class time line can lead to stress and self-depreciation which must be over come.  Depending hon how old Hopper is and what kind of self - advocation he has learned, Hopper could fall further and further behind. It is important to address this as soon as possible. My immediate response is to find and teach Hopper how to use a text to speech piece of software.   Name this Post : Special Needs - 1 - Developing an Individualized Plan Reflect on the types of plans presented in this lesson and the best practices for writing individualized plans for the online environment. A carefully written IEP or 504 plan can make all the difference to the students ability to learn in a class with his/her peers. The plan must be tested and changed, during the first year the plan is written but he IEP team should meet with the student or at least have conversations with him/her about how the plan is working for him/her. The best resource if determining if a plan is correct is through conversations with the student themselves. If a student feels that something in the plan needs to be changed the IEP team can look at the plan and the data ( How is the student doing in class both academically and emotionally ) and then sit with the parents and student to make any changes. Once a plan is in place that has been working, the IEP team has to meet once a year,
